Chaptify

Privacy policy

Chaptify collects the contact details you sign up with, the reading data you create, and basic usage and device identifiers. It does not track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Last updated 22 September 2026

This policy covers the Chaptify iOS app and www.chaptify.net, both operated by Chaptify LLC. It describes the same data categories that Chaptify declares on its App Store listing, under “App Privacy”. If you ever find the two disagreeing, the listing is the one Apple audits, and we want to know: contact@chaptify.net.

What we collect

Four categories, all of them linked to your account. Nothing here is collected anonymously and then quietly joined back to you later.

Contact information

The email address and display name you create an account with. We use it to sign you in, to reach you about your account, and to let other readers find you if you choose to be findable.

The reading data you create

Books on your shelves, reading progress, session times, streaks, goals, notes, highlights, reviews, and ratings. This is the content of the product. It is stored so that it survives reinstalling the app and moving to a new phone.

Some of it is public by design. Reviews, ratings, and activity you post to the friends feed are visible to other readers, and an open reading session contributes an approximate location to the live map. Your shelves, notes, and highlights are not public.

Identifiers

An account identifier, and device identifiers used to keep you signed in, sync between your devices, and send notifications if you turn them on.

Usage data

Which screens are opened and which features are used, plus crash and performance diagnostics. This is how we find out what is broken and what nobody can find.

What we do not do

  • We do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites. Chaptify declares no tracking to Apple, which means no data is shared with data brokers or joined with third-party data for advertising.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as California law defines those terms.
  • We do not read your notes and highlights for anything other than running the features you use them in.

The live map, specifically

When you have a reading session open, Chaptify can show that somebody is reading near your general area on the shared map. The map shows approximate areas rather than precise coordinates, and a session that is not open puts nothing on it. If you would rather not appear at all, you can turn it off in the app.

Who else touches your data

Chaptify runs on infrastructure it does not own, so a small number of service providers process data on our behalf: hosting and database providers that store your account and reading data, an analytics and crash reporting provider, and Apple, which handles all payments for in-app purchases. We never see your card details; Apple does not give them to us.

These providers act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes. We may also disclose data where the law genuinely requires it, and we will tell you when we are allowed to.

How long we keep it

Your account and reading data are kept for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and we delete them, other than anything we are required to retain for tax or legal reasons and backups that expire on their own schedule. Diagnostics are kept for a limited period and then discarded.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and you can delete your account from inside the app without asking anyone. If you are in the EU, the UK, California, or another place with its own privacy law, you additionally have the rights that law gives you, including the right to object to processing and the right to complain to your regulator. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of them.

To make a request, email contact@chaptify.net from the address on your account. We answer within 30 days.

Children

Chaptify is rated 12+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects what we collect or who we share it with, we will tell you in the app rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
